The 2015 Border City Classic is now history. Mother Nature did her best to derail the event, though what she didn't realize was that, kayak anglers are a hard core group. With an average wind speed of over 30 mph and gusts reaching 46 mph, add to that 3 1/2” of precipitation and this was not your average fishing outing. Finding sheltered areas of Lake St. Clair and the upper Detroit River was difficult and had most anglers in canals and close to shore where they would be blocked from the heavy North East winds.

There were 229 fish uploaded to the iAngler App from the 122 registered kayak anglers. Tim Percy of Belle River, Ontario finished 1st overall with a total of 55.75”, he and David Lesar from Macomb, Michigan, who finished 2nd overall, have both qualified to compete at the Hobie Fishing World Championships in China later this year.
